Studious: Hari, Awatapu College

Meet Hari! Hari is currently finishing up high school at Awatapu College in New Zealand. He is motivated to study so he can get into the college courses that he wants to take. Read on to find out more about Hari and hear the great advice he has to share!

What do you love most about StudyBlue?
To be honest, I love everything about StudyBlue! The level of organization, combined with the superb graphics make studying much easier. StudyBlue also tells you how well you have mastered a certain card, allowing for improved study efficiency due to the fact that I can easily target the cards I don’t know.

What is your favorite feature on StudyBlue?
Because of the free StudyBlue app, I can easily sync my cards with my iPod touch. It allows me to turn those transitional periods such as walking to school, or even before and after going to sleep, into opportunities for learning! I do strongly suggest that you do this as well, as I find I have improved my capacity for retention!

Any advice for students on how to prepare for midterms/finals?
I strongly suggest you don’t study your deck for more than 15 minutes at a time. Try to make the cards as small as possible, using them as mental cues to trigger memorization as opposed to simply writing down a solid chunk of text. Also remember that review is key to retention, I find that after I learn a deck I try to review it 15 minutes after I learned it to see how much I have really retained. Don’t be unnerved by the reports StudyBlue gives you. Just remember that if you tend to forget things it is part of the learning process; just repeat the deck until you consistently get 100% mastery!

Anything else you would like to share with us?
Use StudyBlue not only for the flashcard feature! Though I have only piloted it for one subject, storing your notes on StudyBlue gives you access to them offline on devices such as my iPod Touch. Hopefully StudyBlue will release even more features such as customized quizzes that can be ported to mobile devices.

Summary, StudyBlue + mobile device that is capable of playing the StudyBlue app = Happy me :)
