Make Your Summer the Greatest Ever!

General

1. Have a Summer Reunion Potluck!

It’s not until  our friends move halfway across the country that we realize how important they are  to us. Now that it’s summer, and students are returning home again, take the opportunity  to appreciate those that have stuck with you through the ups and downs of those awkward high school years.

Catch up by having a reunion potluck! Make sure to take plenty of photos, and reconnect over  some new and classic summer anthems that you (of course) all know the lyrics to.

Even better, whip out the barbeque and have a cookout, complete with pool party! Your friends attending university out-of-state will thank you.

2. Tour the US!

Not everyone can afford a European Vacation, and that’s okay! Here are some destinations you can visit right in the continental United States. If you’re flying, make sure to get the best deal by booking in advance with flight booking websites like Momondo and Skyscanner. Feeling adventurous? Travel by car! Grab a group of friends, lots of snacks, water, and some good music and get ready for the best road trip of your lives!

Here are some of our top suggestions for US destinations.

Are you a big shopper?

Consider going to Oregon, where there’s no sales tax! Portland is a fun, eccentric city with a ton of life, local small businesses, and good food.

If you’re big on nature, fly over to Colorado where the weather is beautiful this time of year. Endless state parks, hikes, and trails you can blaze make this part of the country a must-see! Be sure to check out the Black Canyon and Emerald Lake Trail.

Are you a foodie, a music junkie, or a lover of different cultures? New Orleans has it all with jazz, parades, and all the Cajun food you can eat! Don’t forget to stop by Cafe du Monde and take a stroll down Bourbon Street in the evening for lots of people-watching and nightlife!

3. Start a Creative Project!

Have you ever had a dream as a kid, or a creative itch to scratch? Take this summer to shoot your shot. Record a song with your friends to put on SoundCloud, shoot some videos to put on YouTube, start a foodie or photography blog, or do a “365 project” but just for summer. These are just a few ideas of creative projects you can do in the summer!

We think of “relax” when we think of summer, but venturing  outside your comfort zone or learning something new can be just as satisfying! You can also teach yourself a new skill through YouTube, like dancing, a foreign language, or guitar. Struggling with the learning process? Use StudyBlue to make flashcards so you can be more effective and save precious time. Make the effort to document your progress to share with your friends! Studying is a lot more fun when you do it out of choice rather than  for a grade looming over your head.

Remember that after college, companies won’t just be asking about the classes you took or your GPA. It helps to have a project you can mention as well. Do something exciting that can go in your portfolio, or be a great conversation starter at the interview.

4. Get MoviePass and Watch All the Summer Blockbusters!

If you haven’t heard of MoviePass yet, you should really check it out! A subscription of $10 a month gets you an unlimited number of movies that you can watch in theaters. Or, for a limited time, you can also pay just $7.95 and watch three movies a month!

Grab a few friends and you all can watch unlimited movies together all summer long!

Boredom? There’s no more excuses when all this fun is free!
