Introduction to Microeconomics Economics 102 (220:102): Fall 2009 Monday and Wednesday, 5:35 ? 6:55 pm Hickman Hall 138, Douglass College Campus Midterm #2: Results Score Students Grade / Score Students Grade 100 22 A / 70 32 C+ 95 31 A / 65 27 C 90 37 A / 60 17 C 85 54 B+ / 55 16 D 80 (med) 41 B / 50 13 D 75 (mean) 31 B / 45/Below 10 F Total 331 90 ? 100 90 A 70 32 C+ 85 54 B+ 60 ? 65 44 C 75 ? 80 72 B 50 ? 55 29 D 45/Below 10 F 216 A/B+/B 115 C+/C/D/F I will review some questions on the second midterm in class on Monday, November 9. Your scantron report has your score on the second midterm, the corresponding advisory grade from the distribution above, and your answers on each question. Your scantron report also has your combined score for the two midterms, and the corresponding advisory grade from the distribution below. If you review the second midterm with Yoichi, bring this scantron report. Your score is also posted on SAS Gradebook (go to the SAS homepage for instructions). Yoichi will review the second midterm in his weekly review session on Friday, November 6 (4:30) and Marty will review the second midterm on Tuesday, November 10 (6:30). The median score on the second midterm was 80 (B). This is one question and five points higher than the median score on the first midterm. The material for midterm 2 was more difficult but the class did better. That is not the typical pattern from past semesters. The material for the remainder of the course will be more difficult as we continue to apply the prior material to new economic questions. Now that I know you can handle anything, there is no need for me to hold back on the remaining material. Midterm #1 and #2: Combined Results Score Students Grade / Score Students Grade 200 4 A / 145 23 C+ 195 10 A / 140 20 C+ 190 14 A / 135 8 C 185 14 A / 130 19 C 180 17 A / 125 13 C 175 20 A / 120 13 C 170 24 B+ / 115 11 D 165 23 B+ / 110 11 D 160 23 B / 105 3 D 155 (med) 28 B / 100 6 D 150 18 B / 95/Below 9 F Total 367 175 ? 200 79 A 140 ? 145 43 C+ 165 ? 170 47 B+ 120 ? 135 53 C 150 ? 160 69 B 100 ? 115 31 D 195 A/B+/B 95/Below 9 F 136 C+/C/D/F The grades above for each score are only advisory. For the final grade, I will reassign grades based on the total points (400 points) from both midterms and the final exam. In particular, I will not average grades from the three exams. Instead, I will use the total points to assign final grades. Note that the As and Bs expanded downward. If you double the total points for the lowest score of your grade-goal, that becomes your score-goal. After doubling that number, subtract your total points, and you know what you have to earn on the final. For example, if you have 140 points now (C+), but you want a B, then double the score for the lowest B to 300 (175 x 2), and then subtract your total of 140. That equals 160, the score you must earn from the 200 points on the final in order to have a chance for a B.
