BOM final study guide Passages: Mosiah 2:17-25 King Benjamin addresses the people I tell you these things that ye may learn wisdom, service of your fellow beings, ye are only in the service of your God You call me your King, he labors to serve them, so they should serve one another Since King Benjamin has served them so much, he deserves it I guess but he wants them to thank their Heavenly Father if ben deserves any thanks at all Put all of your praises toward your Creator- your God Serve him with allyour whole souls or else you are unprofitable servants All he asks is that you keep his commandments, if you keep them, you will prosper in the land He never varies from this promise If you keep the commandments, he will bless and prosper you We are automatically indebted because he gave us our lives He asks that we keep the commandments, and if we do he will immediately bless us, so this is already a payment So you are even more in debt to him because we receive blessings AND a body/life, so we are forever in debt, so what do we have to boast? Compared with God- we aren?t even dust of the Earth, we were created from the dust of the earth, which was also created by God Mosiah 5:5-7 The people of King Benjamin say that they are willing to enter into a covenant with their God They want to do his will, be obedient to commandments for as long as they live They don?t want to bring upon themselves never-ending torment Don?t want to drink from cup of wrath of God King Benjamin goes on to speak to them, saying: This covenant you just made is awesome! Good job Because of this choice, you are the children of Christ He has spiritually begotten you now Your hearts are changed through faith on his name You are born of him, you are his sons and daughters Mosiah 13:27-35 Salvation comes through keeping the law of moses? Yeah, it does, but also eventually you won?t need to keep the law of moses, the time will come Salvation doesn?t come through just the keeping of this law alone If it weren?t for the atonement, everyone would perish, even if they kept the law of moses It was necessary that there was a law, even a strict law, because they were stiffnecked and didn?t remember their Lord So they got a law to observe strictly from day to day to make them remember Him These things were ?types of things to come? They didn?t understand the law because their hearts were hard They didn?t understand that nobody could be saved except if the Lord redeemed them Moses prophesied the coming of the Lord, and prophets did too, and they have spoken of this The prophets have said that the lord will come among everyone and be a man and have mighty power And they have also said he will atone for the sins SO they just weren?t listening apparently Mosiah 18:8-11 Alma teaches in private Teaches about waters of mormon If you come into the fold, you are called God?s people You bear one another?s burdens Mourn with those that mourn Comfort those in need of comfort Stand as witnesses of God at all times and in all things and in all places If you stand as a witness, you will be resurrected first and have eternal life If you want this, you need to be baptized This shows that you have entered into the covenant with him You can serve him Spirit poured abundantly upon you Mosiah 18:21-30 Alma speaks to the newly ordained priesthood leaders Commandments to them- no contention Look forward with one eye, One faith and one baptism Hearts knit together in unity and love Commanded to preach Observe the Sabbath, keep it holy Give thanks every day Labor with your own hands Teach together once a week, worship Gather as often as possible Don?t depend on others for support Receive the grace of God Teach with power and authority from God Give a part of your substance to God All of this took place at the waters of mormon Mosiah 24:13-16 Amulon has been persecuting alma and his people Alma was suffering a lot and so he cried mightily unto God for help and guidance Amulon had guards watch them to make sure that they would stop crying to God If they prayed or cried unto God for help, they were to be put to death Since they couldn?t pray out loud, they prayed in their hearts God knows what is in our hearts, he knows our desires The lord said to them- lift up your heads, be comforted, I know the covenant we have, and I?m going to deliver you from bondage He?ll ease their burden, not necessarily take it away, but make it feel lighter He didn?t take their burden away but made them strong enough so that they wouldn?t be suffering while in bondage They submitted to the guards cheerfully and patiently They were so faithful and patient that the lord said the next day he would deliver them from bondage The lord ended up making the guards fall asleep so that they could escape Mosiah 29:25-27 This chapter is when mosiah I proposes that judges be chosen to rule instead of kings, so alma the younger is the chief judge and high priest over the church Also in this chapter, alma the elder and Mosiah I die You are judged according to the laws that are given to you by the fathers These are correct laws because God gave them to your fathers People normally do not desire what isn?t right But its common that a minority of people choose what is wrong Do your business by the voice of the majority (those who are choosing the right)- that?s exactly what you need to make your law If ever the majority chooses wrong, then God will help you God will visit you with great destruction Alma 11:35-45 In this chapter, amulek fights with zeezrom Only those who ninherit the kingdom of God are saved All men rise in immortality There is no death after the resurrection Christ doesn?t save people in their sins Amulek and zeezrom are discussing stuff Amulek tells zeezrom he knows these things about the gospel because an angel told him, and that the son of God is going to come Zeezrom- shall he save his people in their sins? Amulek- no because then he would be denying his word Zeezrom tells everyone that amulek said that jesus will tell god not to save his people, which isn?t right Amulek tells him he lied, and said he said he has authority to command god because he wouldn?t save liars God will not save people in their sins, no unclean thing can inherit the kingdom of god Its kind of a logical reasoning thing- no unclean thing inherits the kingdom of god How can you be saved unless you inherit the kingdom of god? Therefore, you can?t be saved in sin Amulek says that God is the eternal father, and he will come to the world and redeem his people He will take upon the transgressions of the world of those who believe in him Only salvation and eternal life come to those that believe God To the wicked- no redemption, only loosing bands of death, so they still live after death but they will be judged according to their works Death: temporal death- through christ?s atonement, the bands of temporal death are loosed, and everyone overcomes temporal death because of christ?s atonement After overcoming temporal death, the spirit and body are reunited again in perfect form, every single person will be judged before God, and you will remember everything you?ve done, all your guilt This overcoming of temporal death is for everyone- old, young, bond, free, male, female, wicked, righteous, and EVERYONE will be restored perfectly You will be judged by God, Jesus the son of God, and the Holy Ghost, and this forms one eternal God (in purpose) Mortal bodies are changed to immortal bodies, they can?t die anymore, the spirit and body won?t ever be separated again After this whole discourse by Amulek, everyone was astonished and zeezrom was trembling, and that?s all folks. Alma 12:8-14 Alma fighting with zeezrom this time Alma sees that zeezrom was just struck by amulek?s message Zeezrom was now conscious of his own guilt Alma decides to go more in depth on amulek?s discussion To zeezrom: God knows your thoughts, and you?ve been lying to him You know that we know that your plan sucked- your plan to lie and deceive people to make them hate us and cast us out of here This was the devil?s plan and he just used you like his tool Now remember what I?m about to say! You just fell into the devil?s trap, he wants to chain you down to everlasting destruction He wants to put you into his captivity Zeezrom started trembling more because he now was even more convinced of God?s power He knows that alma and amulek know god, and realizes that they are prophesying 8: zeezrom started asking questions to know more about God?s kingdom whats this deal that amulek was talking about? Explain more please God gives many people the power to know his mysteries, they just need to be careful how they share them If you harden your heart, you will receive less revelation from God If you soften your heart, you will receive more revelation from God, and if you continue to search and pray, you will know the mysteries of God in fullness eventually If you continue to harden your heart, eventually you won?t know anything about God anymore because you will be captive of the devil and destroyed, chained down to hell Now this stuff that amulek said, about death and mortality and immortality, and judgement: If your hearts are hardened, your state is awful and you will be condemned Your words will condemn you, your works will condemn you, your thoughts also You won?t be found spotless You won?t dare to look up at God You should be so embarrassed of your sins that you want rocks and mountains to fall upon you just so you can hide from his presence Then alma goes on to talk about spiritual deaths Alma 12: 24-35 Death happens to people- just like what amulek said about temporal death But there?s a space given to people when they can repent This is why there is life- it is a probationary state During life, we prepare to meet God It is a time to prepare for eternity, which is endless, after resurrection Without this plan from the beginning, there would?ve been no resurrection But this plan allows for resurrection If adam and eve had been allowed to eat of the fruit with no consequence, they would have been forever miserable They wouldn?t have had this preparation time, so this plan would?ve been all messed up So it?s good that adam and eve partook of the fruit The word of god would have been void with no effect But because of the transgression, men had to die, and would be judged after death But God realized that he needed to tell man about this plan So he sent angels to tell man of this plan, so they would know what was expected God started conversing with men through prayer, told them about the plan They only know about this through faith, repentance, and holy works God gave commandments, they must know good from evil The original sin was to place men in a state to act according to their wills and pleasures, to choose good over evil After knowing the plan, they were given these commandments to avoid evil If they didn?t follow these commandments, there would be a second death- spiritual death- an everlasting death of righteous things God called on men for repentance saying don?t harden your hearts, repent, and he will have mercy through Jesus?s acts If you repent and don?t harden your heart, you can get this mercy, and have remission of sins If you do harden your heart, you will have god?s wrath upon you Alma 13:1-13 Alma continues to talk to Zeezrom/other people in the congregation Remember that the lord ordained priests to teach the gospel Priests ordained after the order of Jesus Priests are called, prepared, and ordained because of faith and good works, they chose good instead of evil They have priesthood because of faith Others reject the spirit because of hard heartedness and blindness If they hadn?t been bad they could have the priesthood If you are ordained to the holy priesthood you teach the commandments unto the children The priesthood has always been and always will be You are a high priest forever High priests because of faith, repentance, righteousness, good choices to perish not Sanctified, garments washed white with blood of lamb Priests sanctified by holy ghost, garments white, pure, spotless, abhor all sin Humble yourself before God Alma 13:27-29 Alma speaks to brethren and zeezrom He wants them to listen to him so so badly Cast off your sins Don?t procrastinate the day of your repentance Humble yourself before the Lord Call on his holy name Watch and pray continually Don?t be tempted Be led by the holy ghost Become humble, meek, submissive, patient, full of love, long suffering Have faith on the lord Hope that you can have eternal life Have love of god always in your heart Alma 17:1-3 Sons of Mosiah are declaring the word Alma goes south from Gideon to Manti He ran into the sons of Mosiah who were heading to Zarahemla It was kind of a joyful reunion because they were with alma the younger when an angel appeared to him and converted him, so they are old buds Alma was very happy to see them He was really happy that they were righteous also He was happy that they had waxed strong, had searched the scriptures for the word of God Alma 22:1-23 Aaron is teaching Lamoni?s father doctrine about creation, fall, plan This happens while Ammon is teaching people of Lamoni Aaron had just left land of Middoni Spirit led him to land of Nephi He showed up at Lamoni?s father?s house, who was the king of the land of Ishmael He went to king?s palace and told him they were ammon?s brothers, who he freed from prison King lamoni?s father is curious, and doesn?t want to imprison them because he really liked ammon and how generous he was So he asks them to preach to him Ammon isn?t with us because he went to land of Ishmael to teach people of Lamoni King asks what they have inside of them- the spirit? Well he wants it Also, he wonders about what ammon said about repentance King believes that there is a God and allows Amalekites to build sanctuaries now Aaron is very excited to hear this God is the great spirit that brought their fathers from Jerusalem, he created everything Aaron read from creation of Adam God created man after his own image, god gave commandments Transgression=fall of man Man fell, so he can?t merit anything of himself Christ?s sufferings and death atone for our sins He broke bands of death Grave has no victory King asks about getting eternal life, and how he can have all evil leave him He wants joy inside of him, he said he will forsake his kingdom to receive all of this joy Aaron says bow down before god, repent, pray in faith believeing that you?ll receive, and you will receive King bowed down to pray and laid down on the ground to cry unto the lord King asks for remission of sins, for resurrection, and to be saved King was struck down as if dead Servants ran to find the queen Everyone thought aaron and friends had hurt the king She commanded everyone to slay them But the servants saw what had happened so they won?t kill aaron The servants say that aaron is mightier than them all so they won?t hurt him, they will fall before him The queen feared, and evil came upon her and she told them to go find people to kill aaron Aaron was kind of scared to get killed by the whole town so he raised the king up and gave him his strength back The queen saw this and they feared The king started teaching them And the whole household was converted! Alma 25:14-17 The people of Anti-Nephi Lehi, who were righteous, buried their weapons When the lamanites saw this righteousness, they were converted and also decided to bury their weapons They became a righteous people and joined the anti nephi lehies They observed the commandments of the Lord They kept the law of moses still because it wasn?t fulfilled yet They looked forward to christ?s coming They needed to continue these sacrifices until Christ came, and then it would be fulfilled Salvation does not come alone by the law of moses Law of moses just strengthens faith in Christ They relied on prophecy and the spirit and hope and faith Ammon, aaron, omner, himni, rejoiced because they had converted the lamanites This was an answer to their prayers and strengthened their testimonies If something is messianic, it speaks ABOUT Christ, D- that?s an answer What did Jacob say would happen if there were no atonement? No fall Man?s flesh would crumble Our spirits will become subject to satan B c None of the above Answer: b and c Which of the following is NOT a description of the land by Jacob in 2 nephi 10? A land free from the wiles of the devil A land where gentiles would be blessed A land with no kings A land fortified A land of liberty unto gentiles ANSWER: A 55 questions on mosiah and alma only mosiah I led people to zarahemla, takes any righteous that will follow him, becomes king zeniff finds land of nephi, whos son is noah, then limhi mosiah, benjamin, then mosiah II who is friends with alma mosiah II doesn?t have any quotes doctrines: mosiah 3: King Benjamin is speaking focuses on the atonement we can never teach jesus what suffering means law of moses is worthless without atonement natural man is fallen man, carnal and devilish nature become childlike, not childish angel tells Benjamin all this stuff mosiah 4 king Benjamin continues to speak asking for forgiveness, receive remission of sin, filled with joy salvation comes through atonement retain a remission of sins through faithfulness if you are humble, you stay pure people of limhi- mosiah I takes people to zarahemla zeniff is overzealous to reclaim lands and fights and goes back again son of king noah is limhi alma?s people were blessed that their burdens will feel light because they will be strengthened to endure them, not that the problems will disappear limhi?s people got the guards drunk alma?s people put them into deep sleep mosiah went to zarahemla, some nephites went back to nephi but lamanites beat them down, so they went back to zarahemla zeniff takes them back to nephi again and he wanted to be king during noah?s reign of wickedness, abinadi tries to teach priests take 24 lamanite daughters then ab comes again and converts alma alma escaped and ran to helam noah?s son limhi is now king, people still in bondage and have lamanite tax 43 people go find jaredites bones and find the gold plates of the jaredites as they try to find zarahemla mosiah II in zarahemla heard of these 43 men sent ammon (not mosiahs son) and 15 men to find city of nephi lehi Gideon suggests they leave, and they escape to zarahemla Amulon says they?ll go from the wilderness to helam and take them over Alma prays and puts lamanites under deep sleep, escape to zarahemla to unite with mosiah II Mosiah II becomes king over everyone Alma is high priest, main leader of the church Establish judges, alma younger is judge then gives it up to preach Sons of mosiah II- ammon, aaron, omner, himni Alma elder- alma younger Sons of mosiah II teach lamanites Lamoni-s father?s sons= king lamoni, and brother anti nephi lehi When alma is judge, almici wants to be judge He is rejected by vote Alma kills amlici Amlicites join lamanites, mark themselves Nehor executed for his crimes Taking someone else?s life- lose privilege of living in mortality Nehor was first issue during first reign of the judges In 9th year of reign of judges, alma sees the church getting wicked so he gives up judge position to nephihah so he could go teach and preach and make people righteous Alma goes to zarahemla, Gideon and ammonihah Some in zarahemla listen, some don?t In Gideon, people are righteous, ch 5 cries repentance, ch 7 already righteous In ammonihah, they kicked him out, angel appears to him same angel from conversion Go back, he meets amulek They go preach together Zeezrom comes to contend, bribes them to deny what they said Tries to slip up amulek Amulek receives revelation to preach resurrection and atonement because that?s what zeezrom needs to hear Wicked ones from ammonihah kill women and children alma and amulek saved, zeezrom converted men flee to sidom city destroyed when alma younger was converted so were sons of mosiah just different location 14 years pass and they meet again ammon captures king lamoni in land of Ishmael ammon is meek to the kng, he could?ve taken the kingdom arms are cut off, leader killed lamoni confused- wonders if it is the great spirit falls unconscious, wakes up and wife and servants and ammon sleep brother of leader is killed repentance omner and himni and aaron held captive in middoni ammon wants to save brothers in middoni lamoni and ammon run into the father ammon is protected father is impressed king expects ammon aaron teaches so the king wouldn?t be converted to ammon falls asleep quee gets angry and tells guardsto kill aaron queen is converted anti nephi lehites are converted lamanites they don?t want to be tempted to fiht anymore, they won?t shed blood anymore
