The first noble truth is Dukkha which translates to suffering. This suffering can be relieved though. The buddha thought you could have a good time, but how much of life is enjoyable and at what level. There is something awry as life is being lived out and it blocks creativity and causes interpersonal conflict. The second noble truth answers what causes dukkha is tanha. Tanha is translated to desire and means the desire for fulfillment. Tanha is the ego, making selfish inclinations and demands, causing suffering to you and others. The Third noble truth says that if we could be relieved from self interest into the vast expanse of universal life, we would be relieved of torment. The fourth noble truth says how this cure can occur through the eightfold, path. The Eightfold Path The eightfold path is the cure for Dukkha or suffering. It consists of 8 steps but there is a preliminary step which is right association because you need the right influences around you. The first step is Right Knowledge. You need to know what direction you are going in and this is knowledge gained from the 4 noble truths. The second step is Right Aspiration. The second step tells us to decide what you really want. The third step is Right Speech. The next three steps take hold of the switches that control destiny. The first task is to notice your speech and how it reveals your character. You should start with notice before truth, but speech should also proceed toward charity. The fourth step is Right Behavior There are the 5 precepts which say Do Not Kill Do not steal do not lie Do not be unchaste Do not take drugs or drink intoxicants. The Fifth step is Right Livelihood For someone intent on liberation to give their entire lives to a project, they should join a monastic order. Others should engage in occupations that promote life instead of destroying it. The sixth step is Right Effort Buddha put great stress on moral exertion The seventh step is Right Mindfulness. You should try to keep your mind in control of the senses and impulses instead of of being driven by them. The eighth step is Right Absorption It is regeneration, a change to a different creature who experiences the world in a different way. Basic Buddhist Concepts Nirvana: the word the Buddha used to express life's goal. Nirvana means that private desire and everything that restricts boundless life has been extinguished. It is said to be a Godhead The Buddha said that the human self has no soul. The Buddha believe in reincarnation but in a different way from the Brahmanic ways, but as a wave. There are 3 marks of existence. The first was dukka, but the second is anicca or impermanence. You can venture on the Buddha's words to say that the destiny of the human spirit is a condition where it s experiences and its finite self will disappear, but the experiences will remain and be heightened beyond recognition.
