WOM is influential because consumers tend to believe other consumers more than they believe advertisements and explicit marketing messages from companies. Consumers tend to place more emphasis on negative WOM than on positive WOM. It is also important because in today's information age WOM can be spread to millions of consumers very easily on the internet via on social networking websites or emailing, or even through texting.
