difference between the statistic and the values expected over many repetitions of sampling
reflect many other kinds of error that arise in research. Types:
- Non-observation error: we’ve neglected parts of the survey population (they were accidently not included or they did not respond)
- Observation error: when we get data from the sample but the info is inaccurateNon-observation errors: non-coverage and non-response errors
sampling frame issue: failure to include some units or entire sections of the defined survey population in the sampling frame.
can’t/don’t respond: failure to obtain information from some elements of the population that were selected for the sample.
Field errors/data collection errors: when the individual participates in the study, he or she refuses to answer specific questions or provides incorrect answers to them
Office errors: errors that arise when coding, tabulating, analyzing the data
