Yes, but they came home at 9:00. --While most verbs use avoir to form the passé compose, there are a limited number that use etre. These verbs are intransitive; that is, they do not take a direct object. The most common are listed below. Aller to go allé Venire to come venu Devenir to become devenu Revenir to come back revenue Retourner to go back retourné Rentrer to go (come) back rentré Arriver to arrive arrivé Partir to leave parti Rester to stay resté Monter to go up monté Descendre to go down descendu Tomber to fall tombé Entrer to enter entré Sortir to go out sorti Naitre to be born né Mourir to die mort --Past participles used with etre agree in gender and number with the subject just as if they were adjectives. To show agreement, add ?e (feminine singular), -s (masculine plural), or ?es (feminine plural).
