Reasoning
a mental process that aims at true belief by way of being sensitive to evidence
Logic
our primary tool for reasoning well and achieving knowledge
Arguments
a set of propositions one or more of which is (or would be) provided as reason for thinking that one of the propositions in the set (usually some further proposition) is true
Proposition
a statement or claim that is what a belief is about (or its content): it is something that can be true or false
Conclusion
the proposition for which propositions (or a proposition) are provided as reason why it is or is likely true
Premise
one of the propositions (or the proposition) in the argument that is provided as reason why another proposition is or is likely true
conclusion (book definition)
the statement that the premises are intended to support
critical thinking
the systematic evaluation or formulation of beliefs, or statements, by rational standards
explanation
tells us why or how something is the case
indicator words
these frequently accompany arguments and signal that a premise or conclusion is present
inference
the process of reasoning from a premise or premises to a conclusion based on those premises
logic (book definition)
the study of good reasoning, or inference, and the rules that govern it

the statements given in support of another statement

an assertion that something is or is not the case
Argument (book definition)
a group of statements in which some of them (the premises) are intended to support another of them (the conclusion)
