Ex: measures of blood pressure, heart rate, muscle tension, and brain activity. examination of archival records- a researcher analyzes existing institutional records (the archives), such as census, economic, medial, legal, educational, and business records Descriptive Methods methods used when a researcher cannot manipulate the variables under study naturalistic observation case studies surveys allow researchers to describe patterns of behavior and discover links or associations between variables but cannot imply causation problem with some case studies is that its not always generalized for the whole population problem with some surveys is that some subjects might mislead or lie Correlation Correlation is X and Y go together...not X causes Y positive or negative strength of relationship-correlation coefficient correlation and prediction correlation and causation
