Westman World without Computers Essay Assignment M y life is extremely dependent on technology. From the second I wake up in the morning, until the time I fall asleep, I am constantly reliant on computers. It?s amazing how much people rely on computers these days for everything. It is hard to imagine a world without them. I am going to describe what my life would be like for an entire day without the use of any technology. Every morning I depend on my loud and obnoxious phone alarm to wake me up. In a world without technology, I would not have this luxury so I would be unable to wake up at a desired time. This would probably cause me to be late or even miss class quite frequently. Once I wake up, I usually grab something to eat and then check my email and Facebook. This would definitely be impossible in a world without technology, so it would be very difficult for me to stay in touch with my friends, family, and professors. I also go on Blackboard in order to check my grades and assignments. Without this great tool, professors would have to personally hand out each assignment, and it would be very difficult for me to frequently check my grades. After checking my email and eating a small breakfast I usually grab my ipod and water bottle and walk over to the SAC to workout. At the SAC I usually use the elliptical or run on the treadmill. Without the use of computers, this would be an impossible task. First of all, I am extremely dependent on my ipod when I am working out. If my ipod is frozen or dead it is almost impossible for me to work out. I have to have the music to keep me occupied. I would also not have the luxury of using the exercise machines. I would have to run outside in the cold or hot weather, depending on the time of year, or around a small indoor track numerous times. This would be much more difficult and I probably would not be motivated to work out if this were the case. After I work out and shower, I usually drive to class. On my way to class I pass several stoplights, and crosswalks. Once I am in class, my professor uses the projector to show the class the notes. Without technology getting to class would be very difficult. I would have to walk or ride a bike. I would also not pass any stop lights, so there would be a great deal of confusion at the intersections. Finally, the professors would have to handwrite the notes on the board for the students to copy, because they would not be able to use the computer to project the notes. After class I usually go home, eat dinner, and work on homework. I typically use the computer to type papers or get online for research, so it would be very difficult to do homework without it. Before I go to bed, I always get online to talk to my friends for almost an hour. Then I call my boyfriend who lives in Missouri, and we talk for awhile. Without technology I would have an extremely hard time keeping in touch with my friends, and I would never be able to talk to my boyfriend. PAGE 2
