- Microtubules associated with protein
-This protein plays a role inthe organization of microtubules in the organization of microtubules
MAPS is very important formitosis to occur b/c microtubules move around in the cell & grab onto thechromosomes that are involved in splitting them.
what are the 2main components of the MPF complex in mammalian cells?
CDK and Cyclin
Cyclin is the part that needs to bepresent in order for the CDK to have catalytic activity.
Retinoblastoma, a childhood eye cancerand also with other types of cancer.
Ø binds to p21 gene at the promoter, p21 mRNA isexpressed and nowp21 protein is made. p21 can act as ckI and inhibit the activity of cdk/cyclin complex such as cyclin D complex.
1. inhibit the activity of cdk/cyclin complex such as cyclin D complex
2. can bind to PCNA (Proliferating Cell nuclear antigen) which has role in replication so it can inhibit the DNA replication.
What CKI do TGFB produce?
It has a lasting ability to multiply when called upon for examplethe skin cells and replace dead and dying skin. Blood cells are an example, too.
Which is the following is characteristic about stemcells?
A. Terminally differentiated.
B. Always has capacity to replicate.
C. They are found in only embryos.
D. All of the above.
E. None of the above.
When the cell divides, it is usually rounded, often dividing cells, lose their characteristicsthat let them be a certain type of cell. For example, epithelial cell when it divides becomes roundedinstead of flat when dividing.
. One differentiated cell can bedifferent from another…different nuclei, golgi apparatus, cytoskeleton, actin, etc.
***They ALL share the same basic characteristics and DNA of the organism.
they can be in G0 but they have the ability tocome out of G0 and have the ability to replicate when called uponand have the ability to differentiate into certain types of cells.
Answer = FALSE. In fact even adult stemcells may turn out to be much more useful than we thought in treating differenttypes of diseases.
Multipotent: Can become many types of tissue but not every type.
Ø Hematopoieticstem cells- they can become different types of blood cells but they can'tbecome a heart cell or liver cell.
Fertilized egg
Ø difficultto study because they don't grow in culture so the only source of eggs issurgical removal.
Embryonic stem cell
Comefrom blastocyst of an embryo.
Adult stem cell
Ø Thereare two stages or meiosis, Meiosis 1 and Meiosis 2. At the end of Meiosis 1 the egg splits intotwo cells. It becomes 2n. In the next arrests is relieved uponfertilization and splits again in 4 haploid cells which are 1n.
Itdoesn't really go from 1 cell to 4 cells. It goes from 1 cell then instead of splitting into 2 cells it splitsinto one cell and one polar body- involves completion of meiosis and emission of second polar body.
- Egg witl one polar body gets fertilized by sperm. It is undergoing division from one cell to 2 cells.
v The outside ball of cell is going to become extra embryonictissue (placenta and yolk cell), Ball of cell insideis going to become embryo.
Which of the following defines a cellthat can differentiate into cells that make up all different tissues with theexception of extra embryonic tissue?
A)Unipotent
B)Multipotent
C)Pluripotent
D)Totipotent
The embryonic stem cells have often beentraditionally thought of as the best stem cells for disease treatment becauseof their pluripotent nature – they can become heart cells, nerve cells, alldifferent types.
When an unspecialized cell gives rise toa specialized cell this is the process of:
A)Differentiation
B)Meiosis
C)Mitosis
