A. refusal to maintain body weight at or above a minimal normal weight (85% of normal established weight)
B. intense fear of gaining weight or becoming fat, despite being underweight
C. distortions in perception of ones body weight or shape, undue influence of body weight or shape on self-evaluation, or denial of the seriousness of current low body weight
D. in post menarcheal females= amenorrhea can develop; lack of eating can lead to a women missing her period
restricting type
-refusing to eat as a way to prevent weight gain
-person does not binge ear or purge
-most likely to mistrust others and have tendency to deny they have a problem
binge eating/purging type
-regularly engaged in binge eating or purging behavior
-common purging method= vomiting, laxatives, diuretics, enemas
-more likely to have problems with unstable mood, and controlling impulses with alcohol and drugs and with self mutilation
