Industrial Revolution
a period from 18th to 19th century where major changes in agriculture, manufacturing, mining, and transport had a profound effect on the socioeconomic and cultural conditions in Europe and throughout the world
Centrifugal forces
forces that pull a country apart towards a devolution
Supranationalism
the voluntary association of three or more countries involving economic, defense, and political spheres
Break of Bulk
dividing shipments of goods into smaller portions to minimize shipping costs and maximize efficiency and profit
Balkanization
a geopolitical term originally used to describe the process of fragmentation or division of a region or state into smaller regions or states that are often hostile or non cooperative with each other
Exclave
a territory legally attached to another territory with which it is not physically contiguous
Nation State
a state that self identifies as deriving its political legitimacy from serving as a sovereign entity for a nation as a sovereign territorial unit. the state is a political and geopolitical entity; the nation is a cultural and/or ethnic entity.

forces that bind a state together
Primate City
the leading city or town in a country that is bigger than the rest of the towns in the country. ex: Paris
Devolution
the breaking up of a nation from a greater empire or country causing boundary shifts due to differences in culture, politics, and ethnicity
Entrepot
trading post where merchandise can be imported and exported without paying import duties, often for profit
Nation
a territory or a country as a political entity or a grouping of people who share common history, culture, language, or ethnic origin, often possessing its own government
Metropolis
a big city, usually a significant economical, political and cultural center for some country or region
Landlocked
a country or a body of water that is completely surrounded by land
Shatter belt
a zone of political splintering and fracturing because of the high variation of ethnic groups
