water table
upper surface of zone of saturation; all pores in soil/rock are filled with water
groundwater
water that sinks into soil and is stored in slowly flowing and slowly renewed underground reservoirs (aquifiers)
zone of aeration
zone in soil that is not saturated with water and that lies above water table
zone of saturation
zone where all available pores in soil and rock in the earth's crust are filled by water
pollution

transpiration

physical, chemical, and biological changes that take place after a lake, estuary, or slow-flowing stream receives inputs of plant nutrients from natural erosion and runoff
E. coli
a form of bacteria which lives in colons and intestines of humans and other animals, and are present in their fecal wastes
Ogallala Aquifer
world's largest known aquifer; one of the most serious overdrafts (use faster than we recharge)
