Hidden (Implicit) Curriculum
involuntary minority is one who does not choose to immigrate to another country freely. Oftentimes, involuntary minorities are those who have been taken from their homelands and brought to another by slavery or through colonization or forced out by political persecution or life-threatening conditions
Involuntary Minority
Regimented/ Systematic, formalized, institutionalized (Schooling that is disseminated to a large population through a bureaucratic structure
Mass Education
In a meritocracy, society rewards (via wealth, position, and social status) those who show talent and competence as demonstrated by past actions or by competition.
Meritocracy
The official curriculum, or written curriculum, gives the basic lesson plan to be followed, including objectives, sequence, and materials.
Official (Explicit) Curriculum
Through the process of inversion, certain behaviors and symbols are assigned exclusevley to thedominant group, and the minority group adopts behaviors and symbols in direct contradiction to those of the dominant group (In schools student may reject achevment strivingand displays of effort to preserve their ethnic or cultural identity)
Oppositional Identity
Does not predate contact between the minority and the majority groups; rather, they are responses to the difficult nature of the contact
Secondary Cultural Differences
A prediction that directly or indirectly causes itself to become true, by the very terms of the prophecy itself, due to positive feedback between belief and behavior
Self-fulfilling Prophecy
phenomenon that occurs when a person, who is subject to inauspicious stereotypes (e.g. women in math and science and white males on the basketball court) are negatively affected (at least in testing environments) by the salience of their category membership (performance anxiety)
Stereotype Threat
Involuntary unemployment does not exist in agrarian societies nor is it formally recognized to exist in underdeveloped but urban societies, such as the mega-cities of Africa and of India/Pakistan. In such societies, a suddenly unemployed person must meet their survival needs either by getting a new job at any price, becoming an entrepreneur, or joining the underground economy of the hustler

someone who has freely chosen to move to the United States for more opportunities, political freedom, and better economic well-being
