Friday, April 17, 2009 >The Bronze Pig -Art? -Brozino: (The Panciatichi Holy Family (The Deposition of Christ (The Adoration of the Shephards (Venus, Cupide & The Time -Text about visual art -HCA taking aspects of his life & putting it into the text w/bigger issues -HCA aware of poverty & issues surrounding it -Art has opened up new possibilities & a new world for this boy as he saw such fantastic masterpieces?like HCA?s Grand Tour -Issues of hierarchy & poverty; like Little Match Girl -Touch of religion- power & politics of religion- thrown in; ?used in order to keep social hierarchy as it is? -Concept of the divided world (Why doesn?t the pig come back to life? Was it all imagination in the first place? ?Hear all these objects speaking until you grow up (Possibility that the dog has broken the spell; only occurs when boy & pig are together -Boy no longer satisfied w/being the glove-maker that he?s intended to be; no longer getting along w/his family?realization that maybe being an artist is what he?s supposed to/wants to be -To be an artist is to have the whole world in your hands (Artist can take the world & express it in a piece of art (Piazza Santa Trinita pic. -Artist becomes immortal through his art; HCA was obsessed about >The Old Gravestone (1855) -Also about remembering [-Description of little family?] -Gravestone held in not-so-high regard; pots hung on it, children playing on it ?time travelling to remember couple described in story -Potentially saddened ending (?They are forgotten just like everything else will be forgotten.? *Memory plays an important role! >The Nightingale (1844) -How do we deal with ideals from the past? -HCA not funny in this story?question of political correctness & sensitivities; different in HCA?s days than now (Not intended to be insulting @ the time -Presents problem that you?re ignoring the problems that existed 150 years ago if text is rewritten
