Always running in and out, breaking off, restarting relationship, etc. An extreme example is the idealization/devaluation scenario. It can be a lover, colleague, etc.   Impulsiveness in self-damaging ways: e.g., sabotaging things when they are going well.   Inappropriate intense anger, that is difficult to control.   Need for massive total control of other person. This includes physical control, e.g., through violence, obsessive talking without stopping, using the other person without concern for them (someone who uses people).   Inability to resolve conflicts internally; they act out conflicts through you. And you usually feel so terrible at this, that you don't realize the borderline pushed this into you.   Projective Identification: shaming, etc.   Hatred of true self, both in themselves and in others.   END OF CLINICAL/DEVELOPMENTAL PSYCH. WILL CONTINUE CLINICAL/DEVELOPMENTAL LATER IN THE SEMESTER.   Cognitive Psychology   Cognitive means to do with knowledge and information.   Perception   Perceptual Organization: billions of photons/light-rays hit the retina at the back of your eye. Your mind organizes them into powerful cohesive objects set in space.   This process of organizing involves grouping the stimuli together into objects.   Notice that, because there are billions of points of light hitting the retina, there are an almost infinite number of alternative groupings that you can make.   "Perceptual Organization" is the study of why the perceptual system chooses one grouping as opposed to the alternatives.   Theory offered by the GESTALT SCHOOL   Gestalt School: Germany/Austria 1920s - 1930s   The main idea put forward by this school was that the perceptual system groups by using criteria - and these criteria are really aesthetic criteria.
