Dimensional Analysis

Process used to convert units to different systems of measurement.

Perimeter

The distance around a closed figure.

Area

The measure square units that a 2-D object or planes figure is made up of.

Volume

The amount of space a 3-D object occuppies. Measured in cubic units.

Slant Height

The distance of a lateral face from the apex to the center of the midpoint of the opposite side of the lateral face in a pyramid. In a cone it is the distance from the apex to any point on the circumference of the circle.

Pythagorean Theorem

In a right triangle, The sum of the squares of the lengths of the legs will be equal to the square of the third side of the triangle.

Approximation

The inexact value of a quantity to a desired degree of accuracy.

Metric System

A system of measurement internationally known. The fraction and multiplies of the unit correspond to powers of ten. The decimal system includes weights and measures based on the meter and the kilogram and the second.

Celsius

A temperature scale that measures the freezing point of water as 0 degrees and the boiling point of water as 100 degrees.

Circumference

The measure of the distance around a circle.

Surface Area

the total area on the faces of a 3-D figure.

Lateral Surface Area

Surface area minus the area(s) of the base(s)

Hypotenuse

The longest side of a right triangle.

Exact

A precise quantity.

Pi

A constant number that expresses the ratio of the circumference to the diameter of a circle. Approximately 3.14159.
