Recruitment
expanding the pool of potential job candidates

Selection
: picking the person who gets the job.
Structured interview
: standardized questions that help interviewers

Unstructured interview:
more informal questions to get to know the person
and learn more about them through follow ups.
Assessment center
a place where employees go to perform various tasks and situations that help companies look at how the may perform on the job.

Outplacement
: helping recently terminated employees find new jobs. Usually best to have centers offsite.
Employment at will/termination at will
theory that companies can fire someone without
cause. There are some exceptions due to public policy concerns including
discrimination practices, refusing to break the law, and taking time off for
jury duty
Termination interview
the last interview/meeting where the employee gets
terminated. Should be done by the immediate supervisor and have a third party
(HR) present at a neutral location (general meeting room).
Adverse impact
when normal practices have a bad impact on a certain group protected by the CRA
Training
teaching lower employees how to do the task needed
for their jobs.
Development
: teaching managers how to expand their repertoire
and learn new skills that will be needed in the future for their career growth
