We all surf the web and check email. Now imagine having all of those devices and services in the palm of your hand, in a single device, the iPhone. Ethos: ATT.com announced the release of the iPhone to be June 29th. Thesis: Hearing about the iPhone will allow you to make an educated decision on whether or not to purchase an iPhone for yourself. Preview: I?m going to talk to you about some of the features of the iPhone and also its disadvantages, but first let me show you a short 30 sec clip demonstrating the iPhone from apple.com. Body: Main Idea #1: Apple.com, accessed on June 11 (2007), lists the features of the iPhone. The iPhone is a camera phone, an iPod, and an internet browser all in one device. The iPhone is first an iPod. It has a 3.5in state of the art touch screen that allows you to select your favorite music with a touch of a finger. It is also capable of playing videos and viewing album art (and other pictures for that matter). It even has a built in speaker for playing music according to engadget.com in a January 2007 article. The iPhone is also a camera phone. Its capable of taking 2 Mega-pixel pictures with the camera. You can make calls by dialing in numbers using the touch pad, or by touching your contacts name on the screen. It also displays all of you?re voicemails in a list, so no more listening to all your voicemails just to find that one you?re looking for. The iPhone also uses the Safari browser to view websites. The Safari browser is the most advanced web browser ever on a portable device according to apple.com. It?s great for downloading maps, getting the weather forecast, staying updated on the news, accessing email, and just browsing the web in general. Internal Review/Transition ? So an iPhone is an iPod with a touch screen, a camera phone, and a web browser all wrapped up in one little device. Now lets talk about some of the disadvantages of the iPhone. Main Idea #2: Despite all the hype and great features of the iPhone, it does have some flaws, mainly its exclusive to AT&T and its quite expensive. Apple and AT&T have signed a 5 year contract keeping the iPhone exclusive to the AT&T network, according to usatoday.com, in an article posted last month, in (May 2007). This could be a big problem for the nearly 80% of wireless users not on the AT&T network according to Forrester Research. For those not switching networks just for the iPhone, a new device from another company could very possibly be available to you within the next 5 years, on your network. Another big disadvantage that comes with the iPhone is the price. It comes in 2 variations for now, the 4GB and the 8GB versions. The 4GB one come at a cost of $500, and the 8GB one comes at $600 according to ATT.com, accessed on June 11 (2007). That?s a lot of money for most people. It also costs at a minimum of about $30 per month extra just for the internet access. That?s another $360 per year. Internal Review/Transition ? The iPhone has its disadvantages, its exclusive to the AT&T network and its also very costly. Conclusion: Review: The iPhone has many great features but it also comes with some disadvantages. Thesis: This information should help you to decide whether or not the iPhone is right for you to go purchase for yourself. For example, if the heating system of the house were ductless, a lot of money would be required to install ducts and make it energy efficient. The EERE website also states that the type and cost of fuel used for heating system is a limitation for energy saving. In the Northeast, fuel oil and electricity is mostly used, while rural areas use propane and wood mostly. Depending on the type of fuel, the cost will also vary. Conclusion: Summary: The Home Energy Saver is an easy way to save energy and money and protect the environment at the same time.
