This depends on a persons personality and where they feel they belong. Some religions may provide people with a greater sense of security or belonging because they share the same thoughts and react the same as other people in the community. The purpose of religion has varied from past to present. Even in todays day and age, different groups have different expectations from their religion. One of the oldest and most well known purposes of religion is to answer and explain the mysteries of the world. For example why are we here? What is our purpose? Who created us? Why? What happens when we die? and so on. Although all of these questions, are more, still haven't been answered, religious leaders have preached some form of life after death, which is believed to be either eternal heaven or hell.
