Where is the pons, what is one of its functions?

metencephalon

dorsal to medulla, rostral to cerebellum

Where is the cerebellum? What are the three sections (distinguished by function) of the cerebellum, and what are the functions (generally) of these sections?

flocculimotor(vestibulocerreblum)- eye movements, balance

spinocerebellum- regulate body and limb movements

cerebrocerebellum- cognitive function

tectum- optical and auditory regulation

tegmentum- unconcscious and homeostasis regulation

What sensory systems are the superior and inferior colliculi associated with?

superior- optic

inferior- auditory

What is the connection between the substantia nigra and Parkinson’s disease?

death of cells in substantia nigra, no dopamine receptors to induce movement

From where to where does the reticular formation extend?

from mesencephalon to myelincephalon

What are the two main structures in the diencephalon?

thalamus, hypothalamus

in diencephalon, dorsal to midbrain

planning of motor movement, autonomic function, memory

sulci- valley

gyri- ridge

Where are the longitudinal fissure, lateral fissure and central sulcus? What is the Sylvian fissure?

longitudinal fissure- groove that separates hemispheres

lateral fissure- divides frontal and parietal lobe from temporal lobe

central sulcus- divides parietal from frontal

What are the general functions of occipital, temporal, parietal, frontal lobe, what does prefrontal cortex do

occipital- vision

temporal- auditory

parietal- somatic sensations

frontal- cognitive

What are the other names for the pre- and post-central gyri?

prefrontal gyri or primary motor cortex
