Robert R Moron high school ? named after black native with booker t washington philosophy ? lacked facilites that white schools had ? teachers paid less than white teachers ? over crowded soon after built ? temporary outbuildings added ? tar paper shacks ? leaked and were cold ? the boycott ? barbra johns fed up with inequalites ? strike proposed for springs after no progress ? the april studen assembly ? contacted NAACP and asked for help ? david vs. count school board of principle ward county Technology and educaiton ? reform: the reality behind the promise ? educaiton reform makes schools ripe for technology ? technology can support mulitdesciplinary projects over extened preriods of time ? but mosr school reform efforts have nothing to do with technology ? how to bring techology and reform together? ? the key to the partnership lies in educators developing and then using technolgy as a tool to support these goals - barbra means ? reform draw on progressicist and contructivist ideas ? increase student involvement ? complex authentic tasks ? modeling expert thought process ? collaboration ? external supports ? educaitonal technologies can be classified into 4 broad uses ? they can tutor ? they can explore ? they can be used as tools ? they can communicate ? technologies are being used to support authentic and challenging taskds and can be used to support other fearures associated wtih reform ? multidisiplinary work over extended perios ? collaborative learning ? performance based assesment ? student directed learning ? technolgy and uthentic tasks ? i.e word processing used for school news paper authenitc tasks include ? writing ? editing ? language mechanics ? meaningful tasks are more complec, mulitdisciplinary and require longer blocks of time ? multisciplinary work and extended blocks of time ? begin scheduling around projects rather than subjects ? complex, authentic tasks lend themselves to collaborate works ? negotiate purpose and meanings ? justify conclusions ? releave fear ? work in mixed groups ? collaborative work and differentiation of students roles ? begin to specialize ? everyone is a teacher and a learner ? legitimization of differences ? performance based assessment ? technology supports assessment by ? teachers ? parents ? peers ? students ? technology supports the evaluations of the process through which a product was created ? student directed learning ? technology creates a shift in conrol in classroom ? teachers need command of subject matter and a willingness to be questioned THE END!!! :)
