Different organizing strategies: Craft vs Industrial unions Differing assessments of which workers were "organizable" AFL: skilled and native workers CIO (Congress of Industrial Organizations): all workers The issue of potatoes!! William Hutcheson (Carpenter's Union) and John Lewis (United Mine Workers and CIO) square off - literally!! US Steel and CIO small steel sees big steel giving into to labor demands as a betrayal. Sitdown strike had an injunction but Governor and Prez refused to enforce it. Big steel saw the writing on the wall and aquiesced.
