1. Self-awareness: basis for all other components is being aware of how you're feeling, better able to guide lives decisions and actions
2. self-management: ability to control disruptive/harmful emotions and balance one's mood so that worry, anxiety, fear or anger do not cloud thinking. Able to remain optimistic and hopeful
