Situational Interview: interviewer presents hypothetical situations to see what the employee would do. Behavior interviews: past experiences and stuff. More useful than situational. Reference checks: when the employer calls past employers or other references to see who the person really is and what they have to say. Criterion related validity: how the test actually predicts job performance usually through studies. Content validity: how the test predicts/depicts skills and knowledge that will be needed. Fair Labor Standards Act: determines overtime exemptions, wage laws, child labor and equal pay. National Labor Relations Act: allows employees to form unions. Civil Rights Act: protects employees from discrimination based on race, sex, color or religion. ADA: prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities which include alcoholism and pregnancy Age Discrimination in Employment act: protects those 40 and over when companies try to replace them with lower cost young workers. WARN: employers must warn(written) employees 60 days before a plant closes and if there will be layoffs for more than 6 months. Management training programs: help develop people skills People skills: how one can deal with other employees to motivate them and communicate their goals/visions for the future. Coaching: done by a boss and is usually very effective in development. How much do benefits cost employers: about 30% of payroll costs and growing.
