Agonist

a muscle that does a certain movement/motion

(ex. flexion)

Antagonist

A muscle that moves in an opposite motion to the agonist

Primary Mover

the muscle that plays an important/significant role in doing a certain movement

Synergist

A group of muscles that work together to do a certain movement

Fixator

Muscles that keep one bone in place in relation to the body while more distal bone is moved

Origin

the most stationary end of the muscle

Insertion

the end of the muscle that has the greatest movement

Flexion

bending (decreases the angle at the joint)

Extension

to stretch out (increases the angle at a joint)

Abduction

to move away from the midline

Adduction

movement towards the midline

Plantar Flexion

pointing the toes downward; takes toes away from the shin

Dorsiflexion

a movement that pulls toes closer to the shin

Depressor

any muscle that brings a body part down

Pronator

turns a limb to face downwards

Extensor

increase the angle @ a joint

Levator

any muscle that lifts/rotates a joint

Rotator-

turns (rotates) a limb.
