In what ways and for what reasons was Mussolini depicted as a Messiah in fascist Italy? Italy "needed" Mussolini to be their leader and national icon in that all of the other countries around the world had someone in control except for Italy. (For example, Hitler in Germany and Lenin in Russia). He also had a plan for Italy to be a dictatorship making him a strong political leader with a plan. He was also appointed as their Duce, leading to people looking at him as a savior or emperor. 2. Why were democratic regimes under threat in Europe in the years following WWI? Democratic regimes were under attack because they started to rely on so many new technical devices that they attracted people to come to the city. But in the city, there were disagreements between religion and political views that people began to fight about it and want better leadership that would be able to handle all of these problems that these mass of people were facing. 3.Why did Mussolini, rather than some alternative, become Italy's dictator? Well Mussolini wasn't really the type of person with the leadership qualities, but there weren't many other options for another leader. For instance, there was King Victor Emmanuel III but not many people favored him. There were lots of leaders in the Catholic group, but all were leaders in spiritual views, not political.Army generals didn't have a royal approach, others weren't able of conveying the charismatic personalities needed, and others that were contenders, were driven out as threats. So that just left Mussolini. 4.What were the main reasons for Mussolini's fall from power? The main reason for Mussolini's fall was the fact that the people put him on such a high pedestal that when he made a wrong decision, he was kicked out for no longer being "god-like". He was over-worshiped. Mussolini decided to be allies with Hitler and his third Reich, which to the people was a bad move. They didn't want to be aligned with such a powerful enemy that could have the power to do whatever he wanted and turn his back on them. So the people took away Mussolini's power and he was later executed by partisans.
