use normal speaking order (s-v) when possible

what is a paraphrase?
a writer's summary of what a source said, reworded to simplfy and clarify.
written in 3rd person
punctuated like a normal sentence.
what is a quote
the exact words as spoken by a source, placed inside quotation marks and attributed to the speaker.
why quote?
adds color, credibility, emotion, opinion,
when should you quote?
someone says something unique
someone says something uniquely
someone important says something important
what should you not quote?

rules of quoting
accuracy
cleaning up quotes: you can sometimes take out minor grammar errors or words like "um" or "like"
recycling quotes: if you didn't hear it, attribute it to speaker and the medium that reported it
how should you punctuate quotes
put commas and periods inside quotation marks
a question mark goes within the quote marks if the punctuation refers to the quoted material and out side if it's a question of who said something.
how should you refer to someone on a first reference?
by their full name, excluding courtesy titles, and the person's relationship to the story
what are courtesy titles

what are the rules for formal titles?
capitalize before a name

what is the rule for occupational titles?
always lowercase
