- When a parent is attuned to the infant’s needs and responds with appropriate comfort and care, a secure attachment is formed between parent and child
- A secure attachment with one’s primary caregiver lays the foundation for healthy development throughout the lifespan-secure (60%) - secure base, playing- and every once in a while check, wheres mommy or daddy- secure base is important bc if something happens they need to know theres somewhere to come back to (tired, falls down) – when Mom left some cried some did not; how mom raised them know mom will come back (childcare) but didn’t distinguish anything
When parent return- securley attatched child was always happy to see them (whether they cried or not) they want to reconnect with parent- anxious- ambivalent (15%) - fussing, kicking, - learn the world is not a safe place sometimes; parents met their needs sometimes; I cant trust people to meet my needs in a consistent way, sometime they are there, sometimes not; sometimes wonderful, sometimes not- inconsistent parenting – going to be insecure in relationships; that means you don’t love me, needs constant reassurance
