Margurite's mother convinced the occurance of the masscre. Henry pretended to convert to Catholicism to not be executed and assumed the Catholic French throne after the death of his wife's father. Under his reign he established the Edict of Nantes, which provided Huguenots the right to live in states within the state of France and freely practice Protestantism. After Henry's death, the Edict of Nantes was revoked. The St. Barholowmew's Day Massacre was significant because it proved the dominance of Catholisicm in Freance and the struggle between Protestantism and Catholicism. It also showed the affect rulers had on religious affiliation.
