See how there are dry parts in the middle of the streams
These form when streams are carrying so much sediment that the sediment gets dumped out in the middle of the river

Speaking of floods, let's talk about this concept of the 100-year flood. Here's what this term does NOT mean
year flood DOES NOT MEAN THAT THE FLOOD HAPPENS EVERY 100 YEARS.
Discharge (Cfs)
width * depth * velocity
What it does mean is two things
- A 100-year flood is the largest flood EXPECTED to occur in a 100-year period.
- There is a 1 in 100 (1%) chance that a this flood will occur EVERY YEAR.
Velocity
is the flow rate of a stream, that is, how fast it's moving.
Got that
This means that every year, there is a 1% chance of a 100-year flood occurring
Gradient
is the slope of the stream, or the *rise over run*.
Discharge
is different than the meaning for discharge when we talked about groundwater.

Simple
Look in the year column, and you will see the most recent year is 1997
1997-1907
90
So, n
90
Answer
to figure this out, you take 100 and divide it by R, which is 91
That's the answer
1.09.
See the area marked Mississippi River Drainage Basin (MRDB)
The line that surrounds it is a divide

Do you think water is flowing from top-to-bottom, or from bottom-to-top
If you said top-to-bottom, you're right
See how the streams make a V-shape when they meet
The V always points downstream
null
This is common in cratons (remember that from Block 1
) and other old parts of continents
