Causes 1. Over production: companies mass produce, but no consumers are buying which leads to under consumption which leads to unemployment 2. Stock market crash 1921 : stock fell by 50% business slow and laid off workers 3. banks fail why? banks loan out money, now people can't pay the bank back "run" on the bank: people taking all their money out of banks 4. Agriculture -price of the crop dropping, already low now even lower. B. Dust Bowl Before: Prairies turned into wheat fields rich, fertile, land- the good life Tractor invented in the 1920's.. plow all night, make repairs during the day "suitcase farmers"-- investors of the land, supplied the man power to farm, but didnt actually work the land 1931: drought and dust so much dust the Red Cross supplied Dust Masks- hard to breathe the soil was blown away.. all that was left was hard ground 5 states hit the hardest Texas, New Mexico, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Colorado 1934: storms increasing
