- Most common form
- Usually bilateral and on buccal
- WHITE, KERATITIC INTERSECTING LINES
- Fine secondary lines or hairs that are perpendicular to larger lines.
- Background mucosa is normal, maybe slightly red
- Asymptomatic
- Subtypes:
- Reticular (Spider-weblike) -- Wickham's striae
- No treatment required
- On keratinized surfaces: lingual dorsum, gingiva, hard palate
- VERY THICK, WHITE KERATIN BUILDUP.
- May not have small white "flares" perpendicular to main lines.
- May LOOK like LEUKOPLAKIA.
- Red background
- WHITE SURFACE STREAKS
- Mucosa is atrophic/thin
- Tender/painful
- If burning: candidiasis?
- Caution: may look like Chronic ulcerative stomatitis.
- Treatment: Corticosteroids (topical or systemic)
- Blister formation, usually broken sub epithelial blister.
- Red background
- Tender/painful
- May be confined to gingival.
- Caution: may look like oral lupus erythmatous or graft versus host disease.
- Treatment: Corticosteroids (topical or systemic)
