Transformation Geometryp;

Changes the position of a shape on a coordinate plane by reflection, translation, or Rotation.

Translation

Every point of the pre-image is moved the same distance and the same direction to create the image.

Reflection

Flip of an object over a line.

Orientation

the way an object is facing after a transformation.

Pre-image

The original figure of the transformation.

Vector

A directed line segment

Reflective Symmetry

one half of the object is an exact mirror image of the other half and can be folded over to match perfectly.

Tessellate

To repeat a shape over and over again covering a plane without any gaps or overlaps.

Vertex Arrangement

number configuration of regular polygons that meet at a common vertex

Equation

a mathematical statement that states the equality of two expressions

Cartesian Coordinate System

The system that describes the location of an object by numerically expressing its distance from a fixed position along three imaginary linear axes usually labeled (I,II,III,IV).

Slope: definition not formula

measures steepness of a line: rise over run

Point-slope Form

Substitution Method

solve one equation for one of the variables and substitute the value obtained into the other equation eliminating one of the variables, leaving an equation in one unknown.

Rigid Motion

a transformation or moving of an object from one place to another without changing its shape or size.

Rotation

turning an object about a point

Glide Reflection

An object is translated and then reflected across a mirror parallel to the direction of the translation.

Image

The resulting figure of a transformation.

Mira

device used to find lines of symmetry

Symmetry

the identical form of an object on the other side of a boundary and there are two types: reflection and rotation

Rotational Symmetry

An image can be rotated around a point so that that exact image can appear 2 or more times.

Vertex Figure

the base design in a tesselation where the angles sum to 360 degrees and is repeated over and over again.

Linear Equation

A mathematical expression that has an equal sign and linear expressions.

Expression

A sum or difference of mathematical terms that may use numbers, variables, or both.

System of Equations

A collection of two or more equations with a same set of unknowns

Slope-intercept Form

y= mx+b

Ordered Pair

location of a point on the coordinate system.

Addition/Elimination Method

One variable is *eliminated* by *adding* or *subtracting* the equations.
