1) Proximate Qs
2) Ultimate Qs
Proximate Qs -> Immediate causes.
How is the behavior triggered?
Ultimate Qs -> Evolutionary causes.
Why did this behavior develop? (What was the selective pressure?)
*Enables completion of behavior necessary for survival w/o having to take time to think or learn.
Drosophila (fruit fly)
-Genes govern courtship & mating behavior
-Fruitless encodes a protein found in males, allows them to cout females.
-Switching pups at birth caused them to have diff behaviors as adults
*These behaviors which appear to be genetic are strongly influenced by the environment (NURTURE)!
-Male fruitless mutation -> try to court other males.
-Female + fruitless -> attempts to court other females.
