A term coined by Herbert Spencer that meant that only the fittest would be the ones on top in society. Only the most fittest would be the rich ones in the economy.

The first major broad based labor union, accepting even unskilled workers. They accepted everybody, including blacks and women.

Supreme Court Case in which women got the chance to have shorter work days and better conditions due to their health needing protection.
A leading financier, steamship and railroad builder. Unlike all the other rich men Vanderbilt gave very few money to charity.
Inventor of the light bulb and got patents of many other inventions. He helped to make electricity a common source of energy.
