Hitler comes to power in Germany at a time when German people are looking for someone to help them; still in WWI debt, can’t have strong military b/c of treaty; Hitler says he has the answers, so many follow him
built huge bomb; ironic b/c we use lots of German knowledge to build it since Germany’s technological advancements were further along;
Rosie the Riveter; Women enter workforce; man-power shortage b/c they are in the military; pay not good; at end of war, the women won’t be allowed to keep these jobs, expected to give them back to the men that return from the war
invasion of France; begin to liberate the Nazi death camps
· Leading up to Yalta the British & Soviets were already dividing Europe into spheres of influence, an outcome unacceptable to the United States
· Roosevelt ultimately decides that Germany must be rebuilt (Churchill agrees)
o 1. Soviets want security
o 2. Americans want free trade & openness
o 3. British want to restore their colonial empire
o 4. Chinese & French just want to cause problems
