The governor of all life - human and natural. You can think of this as a kind of guide for existence.
An undivided unity in which all the contradictions and distinctions of the world are ultimately decided - a force which brings balance to the world.
Can the Way be described or defined?
Who can follow the Way?
Anyone, it is your instinct. It may be hidden by social constructs but we can all know it.
Wu wei, or non-action
A person should do nothing that is unnatural, nothing that goes against the way. A person should not perform any forced action.
Uncarved wood / importance of natural state
In the Daodejing, we are told that we should "Embrace uncarved wood" This is wood in its most natural state, before any artificial limitations or structures are imposed on it. This is the best way of being.
problem with assigning names and values to things
Many values are good and bad, virtuous or non-virtuous, beautiful or ugly, that we apply to the world around us are not the Way. They are the creation of man and society, artificial, and less true than the way.
What does the bird-fish K'un-P'eng represent?
It is Daoist. It is about transformation. Getting rid of limits. They limit what we can conceive as possible, how we act in the world. These limits are a bad thing. Putting names and titles on things is a bad thing, it reminds us of the opposite of the name or title
What is the concept of uselessness vs usefulness?
Knowing when to act in a certain way
It also implies that no man is perfect, everyone is trying to become a sage
(ex: drinking if boss is drinking/not drinking if boss isn't drinking)
He was such a good butcher that his knife never dulled when he but animals.
He was also an example of someone that followed rules but didn't strive to achieve status and virtue.
To accept things that are natural. TO not be hung up on social pressures and stigma
Views on death
Life is good death is bad. Be accepting of death, realize it will happen, and you will not be bothered by it. He (Zhongzu) sees it as part of a cycle. We also shouldn't fear sickness because we don't know what it is going to be like.
Problem with things being named correctly
Such a word as benevolence, it must solely be used for the right purpose
