CNS: tremor, nervousness, hyperactivity, headache
Other: nausea/ vomiting, dry mucus membranes, bad taste, muscle cramps
Nebulized treatment of 2.5mg/3mL via 6-8lpm of oxygen over 15 min; may be repeated every 15 minutes (same dosage for children)
patients may also be given a hand held inhaler: 2 puffs every 4-6 hours
Anaphylaxis Adults: 1:1000 .3-.5mg SQ
Broncospasm or status asthmaticus Adults: .3mg SQ
Adult: 1mg IM
It is a competitive inhibitor for the narcotic drugs
effects of narcotics often last longer than the duration of narcan so respiratory depression may return when narcan wears off
Adult: 2mg IV or IM (may repeat if no response in 5 minutes)
Pediatric: .1mg/kg (max single dose 2mg)
.4mg SL (may repeat every 3-5 minutes to a total of 3 doses)
patients of an altered LOC (must be able to swallow)
