began in 1850's, Charles Loring Brace talked to children on the streets that were poor and hustling for money.
How did the Orphan Train process work?
Children was given away from there parents to the Children Aid Society; They took them on trains for 3 days without stopping to the country so they could find work.
What did the Society do to monitor the children's placement?
they had a commitee to make sure they were ok. If the children didn't like it there they could come back. But most of the adoptive parents that were abusive made some children lie. The monitoring wasn't inforced and some children were stuck in abuse.
What was the wellbeing of the children?
Some were in good homes and had better opportunities; Others were used as slavesor abused, siblings were seperated, and some were sent back to the society, sent to different families, or ran away.
What impact did the Depression bring to family life?
Many families stop or did not have children; drop in the divorce rate; families got closer; more married women in workforce.
