Young Buddha, grew up wealthy but wanted to see the world. He went and bribed his chariot man (*important in Bhagavad Gita) to take him out. He discovered death, sickness, and old age. He wanted to find answer to why people suffered, so he did everything he could. He tried excessive, eating nothing, barely breathing, not sleeping, overeating, excessive prayer. Nothing worked. Eventually, he sat under a tree, doing everything in moderation, and he was enlightened, achieved Nirvana.
