What was work like for workers of factories during the industrial revolution?
-12-14 hour days
-extremely dangerous conditions (thousands of children killed)
- mind-numbing monotony
How were children punished?
They were beaten with a rod or whipped if they were late. If they did not "function" properly there heads were stuck in buckets of water, as found by a British parlimanetary report. Solitary confinement. Much sexual abuse by oeners.
How were adults punished?
fined or dismissed
What was a quote by an industrialist describing his workers?z
that his aim was "to make such machines of the Men as cannot err."
How did the pitiful conditions of the revolution lead to the development of socialism?
Conditions in factories were terrible. Corportations exposed their workers to much harm and danger as they were driven by profit and they would do whatever needed to get as much as they could. Theoretically, if the government controlled production, they would be less focused on profits as corporations and as many goods ad possible produced; they would be more focued on the health and safety of their people, even if it meant less profit.
