Dear AP English 12 Senior, Welcome to the first day of English of your senior year. You will have so much fun with Mrs. Grayson in AP English 12. AP English 12 is a challenging and fun class, which you will enjoy a lot. Hopefully you will have as dynamic and versatile classmates as we had. With a good class you will not only learn things you want to learn, but you will also go above and beyond that to learn things you wish you never knew about the world and about each other. Some words of wisdom about this class are to always come prepared for anything. Some days there are homework assignments due and Mrs. Grayson checks or collects them, and some days she doesn?t. So always be prepared. Also, check Group Fusion every night in case Mrs. Grayson sneaks an assignment up there that?s due soon, or changes the due dates on something else so you?re not always swamped. The books that you will read in class this year are pretty good. They are nothing like The Alchemist from 9th grade. When reading the books in class, always make sure that you are reading the books as she tells you too. There will almost always be pop quizzes on the day you were supposed to have read a section of the book by. Also, with each of the books, you will probably do fun group projects. Be careful because sometimes when you do a video or power point presentation, you may not save it right on your memory stick and have to show it the next day. This happened to many people in our class this year. Furthermore, the group projects are by far, the BEST and most fun thing we did this year! :] In the last couple of weeks leading up to the AP exam for this class, be prepared to write about one essay per night or three essays over the weekend. Although it may seem really lame at the time, Mrs. Grayson is just trying to prepare you as best she can for the AP exam. Once you write these essays you will go over them in class and listen to what other people saw in the essay and what they wrote about. This is very helpful because it offers you new insight into a poem or excerpt you just wrote about, so PAY ATTENTION! And now onto some general senior advice. Don?t skip class. I know you think this is a lame thing for me to say, but I saw many of my classmates suffer from skipping class towards the end of school. As it starts to get warmer out in April and May, and AP exams start, it will be very tempting to just up and leave, or not even come to school some days. I suffered from this in my last quarter grades, as did many of the people in my class. After the AP exam, MRs. Grayson starts giving attendance grades, so don?t skip school! Last of all, enjoy your senior year because you will soon be leaving high school and moving onto bigger and better things. Have fun! And remember, only 9 more months of school until graduation! :] Good luck! Samantha Rimkus
