.) DNA is a double helix (two strands of nucleotides)
.) DNA is right handed
.) The two strands are aniparallel (one goes from 5-3 while the other goes from 3-5)
.) DNA is formed by hydrogen bonds between nitrogen base (A-T and G-C)
.) These ratio of A is equal to the ratio of T's while the ratio of C is equal to the ratio of G.
They eliminated carbohydrates, proteins, and RNA as transforming factors because when each material was treated with the corresponding denaturing enzyme, the pathogenic genetic material was still passed on to the bacterium. In the end, the only material which when broken down did not transform the genetic material to the next generation was DNA, confirming that DNA is the transforming material.
