The "god" was public property because temples were built by communities, not individuals Dedications, statues Games: competition held in honor/celebration of gods. Presided over by priests Still major individualism. Civics v. religion: which came first? Two sides of the same coin. Pleasing a that is a community god will bring about major c hanges to the ancient audience. The two came together.
