release of blood borne hormones that regulate carb metabolism
involve prodxn of digestive enz which r carried via panc duct to duod
Islets of langerhans
Endocrine portion of pancreas.
Part of serous acini. Produc digest enz. Have abundance of rough ER at basal end and zymogenic granules at apical end
Digestive enz of Pancreas
Trypsin, amylase, lipase, DNAse
breaks down proteins into AA. Secreted in trypsinogen form. Activated in small intest by enterokinase. Tryp activ other pancr enzymes.
located on glycocaylx of columnar absorptive cells.
Trypsin inhibiting factors
secreted by pancreas. that prevents activation inside of pancreas. Failure of this results in rapid self-digestion of pancreas
breaks down starches into maltose
splits fats and triglyc into monogylc and FAs
breaks down nucleic acids
stimulates enzyme secretion
stimulates alkaline fluid secretion (required for enz activity)
empties into duodenum. Formed by joining w/in pancreas of interlobular ducts. Ducts lined w/ simple columnar epithelium and surrounded by connective sheath
begins w/in center of centroacinar cells. Intercalated ducts line w/ simple low columnar or cuboidal epithel. Leads to larger intralobular ducts. Duct lining have no enz secreting cells but cells do secrete alkaline
