Respitory System: * Most important function of lungs is pulmonary ventilation Ventilation- how the lung brings in atmosphjer air into the avile line in exchange with capillary blood. Process is to load capillaries with oxygen? -to load pulmonary capillaries with O2, -to unload CO2 from pulmonary capillaries -Movement of gases via *hyperventilation and hypoventilation have nothing to do with ventilation, but rather avila gas composition -there are non respitory functions of the lung, such as preparing the ambient(outside air) air to its delivery to its aveilite. It humidifies it, adjust temperature in there, activates immune system, and de humidifies?. -2 components of respitory system- upper and lower repertory tract? the upper tract begins at the nasal orifice and continues till the entrance of the trachea. -the lower tract is from the vocal chord to downwards is lower.. sinus infection would mean you have an upper airway infection. Nasal terminates provide the defensive properties for the nose.. -wobblet cells and ciliated cells and mucosal glands are all cellular elements in the respiratory tract. Mucosal glands secrete mucous like proteins and peptides that forms a layer on the respiratory surface. The ciliated cells project into the layer of the mucous. The function of the 2 are to trap unwanted matter and remove it from the respitory system. Through the processes of mucocilia clearance or Respiratory escalator. -the bronchi branch breaks into left and right. The globar bronchi breaks down further into segmental bronchial. The lungs exist in a thorasic cavity.. each hemisphere, right or left, is located in the hemi thorax. ***Mediastenum- is a separate cavity that contains the heart, the great vessels, thyroid gland and some other tissues? -lower airway, functional unit- is everything from the terminal bronchial to the distal? from the trachea to the terminal bronchioles, there is 16/17 times bronchi dividing . also known as the conducting zone- main function is to take in air and get it out, but does not exchange air with blood.. -***pulmonary vein should carry oxygenated blood. Pulmonary artery should carry deoxygenated blood, (Blue) Sperometer- person breathes into an inverted canister which is attached to a poygraph recorder and pully system. Meauses the person title volume?-the amount of air moving into the body and out. The same pathway over a life time. the forced excretory volume- Fev(sub)1 = ---comducting zone- everuting from mouth to the terminal bronchioles and respiratory is down from there. 00---------- Process of ventilation? How do we breathe? pressure and volume relationships, pleural membranes, plearula space and transmural pressures, minute ventilation, dead space ventilation, alveolar ventilation -inspire- taking in air?.mixes fresh air with old air?2/3 of resh air mixes with 1/3 of old air in the alveoi alveoli pressure is always 0 during respiration causing air flow to come into the body..
