Theology Notes November 16, 2010 Who wrote the letters to St. Paul? There is controversy about this. Shocker. Modern scholars are divided in their opinion about who wrote Colossians. Some believe it to be Paul others believe it wasn?t based on the language and themes which are different from what we would expect of Paul. The letter to the Ephesians most believe wasn?t written by Paul. Why is Ephesians before Colossians? It?s longer. As an example of how Colossians read the section on Colossians 4 and 5 which discusses Christian couples and how they should live Their marriages. In Ephisians they discuss steward ship. Whoever wrote Ephesians had to rewrite/restate what was already said in Colossians. Verse 15-20 angels are under Christ. Idols are demons so if you worship an idol you are worshipping a demon Chapter 1 Verse 15-20 he is the beginning? Dealing with the issue of the inclusion of the gentiles into the community. In verse 14 there he talks about how God and Christ has obliterated? What does it mean to despoil someone? Take their possessions. What possessions has Christ taken? Christ: The Wisdom of God here. Not Wisdom as in quality but in the sense of a person by God?s side from the beginning of creation located in Chapter 8. Far off-gentiles; near-jews in the jewish language
